Shelby Introduces Limited Edition 2012 Shelby GT350, Adds Convertible Option for the First Time Since 1970
At the 2011 Chicago Auto Show, Shelby unveiled the limited edition 2012 Shelby GT350, which enters the new model year with two fresh color options and, for the first time since 1970, a convertible body style. Based on the Ford Mustang GT, the Shelby GT350 comes with three engine choices, including a base version with a naturally aspirated 430HP V8 mated to either a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission, and two supercharged variants delivering 525HP and 624HP.
The new color options are Race Red and Kona Blue, both with white Le Mans stripes, while the Performance White with blue Le Mans stripes combo continues for the 2012MY. Last but not least, the new GT350 convertible can be ordered with a light bar, while other options include a once piece drive shaft and color coordinated billet aluminum engine cap set.
“Last year, we brought back the GT350 45 years after it was launched,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. “They look and sound just like the ones we built in 1965. We’re repeating history by offering two additional colors and building a few convertibles for the second year of production.”
Prices, not including the donor Mustang GT, start from US$26,995 for the naturally aspirated version and US$33,995. The company said it plans to keep production limited to 350 units.

One-off 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca to be Auctioned Off for Charity

At the 40th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, a one-of-a-kind 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca will go under the hammer to help raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Finished in a unique "Grabber Blue" paintjob, this Boss 302 Laguna Seca was specifically built by Ford for the auction and features a series of extra modifications over the stock model, which should increase its value at the auction.
The company's designers added distinctive black accents to various body parts (mirrors, roof and spoiler) and Citic Dicastal 10-spoke wheels, also painted black. Inside, Recaro buckets with embroidered Grabber Blue “Boss 302” inscriptions and other chromatic touches set this car apart.
The Laguna Seca package comes with upgraded suspension, chassis and aerodynamic kit, turning the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 into a ready-to-race muscle car. According to Ford, the Laguna Seca can easily reach 1.03 lateral Gs, while also featuring shorter stopping distances and faster acceleration times compared to the regular Boss 302.
Racing legend Parnelli Jones, who won the 1970 Trans-Am season opener in a Boss 302, will provide commentary from the auction stage with Ford’s Mustang team.
“I am very excited to see that Ford is carrying on the tradition of the Boss Mustang,” said Jones. “Ford had the right ingredients to bring back this legendary car and it’s a great addition to the Mustang lineup”.
During the last four years, Ford has raised nearly US $2.5 million for charity through similar events.

Ford Mustang is a car that all other manufacturers want to mimic the new term "pony car" was adopted to lead. The term was first used by Dennis Shattuck, the editor of Car Life magazine around that time and created a sound based on the Ford Mustang ride.
First Generation
The first generation of Mustang has been made under the strict supervision of Lee Iacocca and Ford's chief engineer Donald N. Frey and take 18 months. The original prototype saw a car with a mid-mounted V4 engine and only 2 seats but this was abandoned for the design of 2 4-seater in February due to low sales of the Ford Thunderbird. February 2 design is believed to have been selected because of the success of cars like the Jaguar E-Type.
Design of the new agency created by Joe Oros that the design win in a match that produced by Iacocca.
"I told the team that the car I want to attract women, but I want to desire men, I want the front end such as Ferrari, motif centered on the front of heavy Something that looks like a Maserati, -. but, please, not a trident and I want to intake air on the side to cool the rear brakes, I say sporty as possible and it seems related to the European design "-.. - Oros
In order to maintain a minimum construction cost of a car based on parts of the car is production, such as Ford Falcon and Ford Fairline.
Second Generation
The second generation of the Mustang driven by the energy crisis in 1973 that cars were a big thirst for gasoline is not preferred because of rising fuel costs.
New, smaller Mustang II was released in 1973 and Ford is aiming to compete with small Japanese imports like the Toyota Celica. However, the last car was much heavier than their beginning to hurt performance.
Third Generation
In 1979 the third generation of the Mustang was introduced, highly dependent on the Japanese market for design. The car was designed more to accommodate four passengers, baggage volumes improved and extended the engine room for easy maintenance.
Fourth Generation
In 1994 the third generation Mustang suffered major Restyling for the signal from the original 1964 design for the first time since the 1973 version of the hatchback is no longer available.
The original engine was 3.8 OHV V6 rated 145 horsepower, but over the years, this is an upgrade to a 4.6L V8 producing 225 hp big in 1998.
